75 YEARS STRONG

The Rotary Club of Hamburg marked 75 years of community service with a banquet at the Wanakah Country Club in Hamburg on June 6. In attendance were District Governor Marlee Diehl, DGE Reg Madison, DGN Melissa Shrock and District Grant Treasurer Don DeMeo, along with past district governors John Rydzik and Jack Amico and his wife, Mike. State, county, town and village elected officials presented proclamations congratulating and commending the Rotary Club of Hamburg for its longevity and service to the community.
The Rotary Club of Hamburg was chartered in 1942 and continues to provide service to the community through projects such as Warm the Children, which provides warm winter clothing for children in need; and funding for not-for-profit organizations such as the Hamburg Counseling Service, the Penn Dixie Fossil Site and the Lounsbury Adaptive Ski Program.  Hamburg Rotary also provides college scholarships and mentors the next generation of community leaders through SLAPSHOT and RYLA, Rotary’s leadership programs for high school students and young adults.

Dennis George, the Quizmaster, was master of ceremonies and Mike Randall of WKBW-TV, Channel 7 entertained with a lively presentation that included magic tricks. Twelve Rotarians were recognized as Paul Harris Fellows (some mutliples included): Liz Angelbeck, Lisa Avery, Jerry Bastedo, Patricia Castiglia, Leo Fallon, Jack Flint, Eileen Hotho, Sid Jack, Tom Johnston, Earl Knauss, Jeff Kusche and Tom Swarthout.  Johnston and Castiglia were additionally presented special awards for their extensive levels of service.
