SENIORS & SQUARES

The Rotary Club of Lewiston/ Niagara-On-The-Lake is contacting senior citizen centers and knitting clubs to help facilitate "Project Amigo."  The organizations are being asked to knit or crochet squares to be used for afghans that will be distributed to poor families of students in Mexico who are being sponsored by Project Amigo. This is a charity that supports students from Colima in rural western Mexico so that they can create their own educational opportunities and better their quality of life.
One goal of the Project is to provide the afghans to primary school children who live in unheated homes in the mountains.  Hopefully the afghans will  keep them warm, contribute to many nights of restful sleep and lead to alert students who do much better academically.  Another goal is to provide a source of income for those who sew the squares into the finished afghans.  Most of whom are unemployed mothers of the Project Amigo students.

The Lewiston/NOTL Rotary is indebted to the Lewiston and Lockport seniors that have contributed to the success of the project to this point.  The completed squares will be forwarded to the lead Rotary Club in Connecticut for shipment to Colima, Mexico."
