The mission of the learning and leadership development committee is to strengthen club resiliency by facilitating impactful learning programs that educate, engage, and empower club and district leaders to serve in their roles.
For the 2023-2024 Rotary year
- Governor Scott Marcin and Committee Directors are the conveners of Rotary Web Talks and other educational offerings.
- Governor-Elect David Alexander convenes President Elects Training (PETS) and District Training Assembly (DTA).
Aaron Carlson is the director of the learning and leadership committee, and his role is to support the Governor, Governor-Elect, and Committee Directors with:
- Evaluating participants' needs
- Developing the program content and curriculum
- Assigning and preparing the facilitators
- Managing the logistics of the event
- Promoting the event
- Conducting sessions
- Evaluating whether the event met learning objectives.
The learning and leadership committee is organized into several subcommittees:
- Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) chaired by Paul Gibel, provides diverse leadership training that is “transferable” (i.e., conflict resolution, team building, ethics, public image) and Rotary-based (i.e., foundation, service projects, Rotary Action Groups, and Fellowships).
- Rotary Web Talks is looking for a chair (email Aaron if interested). This subcommittee seeks out feedback from Rotarians across the district to determine what they’d like to know more about and identify speakers for a monthly one-hour program. Web talks can cover best practices such as improving club governance, literacy service projects, abuse, and sexual harassment. Web talks can also cover general Rotary knowledge, such as learning more about the foundation or youth services offered. Topics can also be innovative, such as how to use acritical intelligence (AI) for your club duties.
- Club Officer Roundups is looking for a chair (email Aaron if interested). This position aims to support functional leads (i.e., treasurer, foundation, public image, service, fundraising) with logistics and promotion of quarterly roundup gatherings for club leaders to gather and discuss best practices and provide peer support to one another.
Each month, the director of learning and leadership hosts a one-hour drop-in zoom call where any Rotarian can come and ask any questions. Aaron can screen share and help you navigate ClubRunner, MyRotary.org, and Brand Center or answer any Rotary-specific questions. If Aaron can’t help you, he will connect you to the appropriate district resource.
