NEPAL DOCTOR HELPS CLUB AT RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

On January 20th, the club welcomed Dr Anil Shrestha, Founding Medical Director of the Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital (NOH) in Kathmandu, Nepal.  Dr. Anil made a side trip to Buffalo to personally thank club members for the monies raised and sent to NOH following the multiple earthquakes suffered in Nepal.   Dr. Anil, also a Past President of the Rotary Club of Kathmandu West, explained how the hospital came in to being, and all the various contributions of Rotary clubs from across the globe including those contributions from the Amherst South club and District 7090.  Dr. Anil detailed the history of the hospital and how it arrived at its current state, and then told of the work that the NOH did for patients after the earthquakes of last April and May.  Also joining the meeting was DG Kevin Crosby.  Continue reading for the rest of the story..........

Unfortunately, for Dr. Anil, he was not through with the Amherst South Rotary Club.  January 20th was also the day the Club was scheduled to make dinner at the Ronald McDonald House on W. Ferry St., in Buffalo, in the “Cooks for Kids” program. The program offers volunteer groups the opportunity to make a dinner for the children from all around the country and world, who are receiving medical treatment in Buffalo, and for the family members who are accompanying them.  The meal allows the patients and families a delicious chance to share a meal and relax in a homey atmosphere.  The club stepped up with a meal of lasagna, broccoli, salad and garlic bread.  It smelled great.  With Rotarians all over, there may have been some truth to the old adage about too many cooks in the kitchen.  Dr. Anil, who gets the award for traveling the farthest to participate in a community service project, stepped right in, and like any good surgeon, grabbed a knife and started cutting things up. It was a good night with our fellow Rotarians for a most worthy cause.
