DISTRIBUTING WHEEL CHAIRS IN THE DOMINICAN

In May of this year a group from the Rotary Club of Ancaster AM travelled for the fourth consecutive year to the Dominican Republic to distribute Wheel Chairs, stoves and medicine.   Participating this year were Kathryn Smith and her son Sandy Trenholm, Paul Robinson and his daughter Regan, Murray Green, and Collette Patten.

During the six day trip, the team visited senior homes, hospitals, orphanages, and individual homes, in Santo Domingo, Hondo Valle, and Cotui.

With financial support from the Rotary Clubs of Niagara on the Lake, St Catherines, and Brantford, individual donations and a Matching Grant, the Ancaster AM Rotary raised $16,000 to purchase 110 Wheel Chairs. With the assistance of Rotary Clubs in the Dominican Republic, the Wheel Chairs were distributed to the young and old in need of wheel chairs to provide basic mobility. Over the last four years the Club has distributed over 300 Wheel Chairs in the Dominican Republic.

With additional funds provided by the Ancaster AM Club, propane stoves were given to households which currently used open wood fire to cook their meals.

In the photo, Regan Robinson and Kathy Smith along with several Dominican Republic residents (including a couple of Blue Jay fans), show off one of the stoves being delivered.
