24 COMPELLING WORDS

So often people say to me, "What is Rotary"?

I am excited to say that Rotary International has put 24 words together that provide a compelling answer:

There are so many great points in this vision statement:
  • We are not people of meetings - we are people of action
  • We focus not only on our local community but also other places all around the world
  • By getting involved, you become part of a great movement
  • Once you have the Rotary spirit, you will never be the same
Inside this plan are four main priorities.  I want to narrow in on the first priority - namely increase our impact.  For more information about the whole Rotary International plan - please refer to https://my.rotary.org/en/learning-reference/about-rotary/strategic-plan

Priority #1 - Increase Our Impact

This priority is all about collaborating and working together to make lasting change.  As the RI action plan notes, the more we learn about what others are doing and tap their experiences, the more we will increase our impact.

It is so true.  In these past few weeks, I have attended many sessions for Governor Elects.  The richness is learning what others do in other districts and bringing those ideas and insights to our own district.

The same is hopefully true for all of our club presidents and president elects throughout District 7090.  When they attend their area meetings with other local clubs, they learn what others are doing to raise funds or help those in need.  They can build on those ideas or even elect to do a project together to increase our impact.

When we learn from each other, we find ways to do things better or do things together.  Both increase our impact.

So I am asking if you can please utilize a Rotary tool that we have for sharing… namely our Rotary Showcase.  Created by Rotary International, it is a tool where we can enter all our projects.  Others learn about them and copy them - which increases our impact.  In other cases, clubs might collaborate and double the impact.

Go to My Rotary and search Rotary showcase.  https://map.rotary.org/en/project/pages/project_showcase.aspx

If you search by typing in District 7090, 53 projects emerge.  Some are in progress and some completed.

You can read about the Rotary Club of Lockport working with the Niagara Greenway Commission and others to create a packet parks along the Erie Canal.  It is a project they hope to complete by June 2025 but this impact could be reached sooner if other clubs jumped on board.

Or you can read about how the Rotary Club of the Tonawandas created a drive through pantry with the Salvation Army to help feed shut-ins and others suffering due to COVID-19.

So much to see and uncover in reviewing the 53 projects.  However, the tool would be even more effective if every club in 7090 entered at least one of their 2020-2021 projects.  It takes a few minutes.  With the click of the enter key, you increase your club’s impact by sharing your ideas with others.

I will be watching with anticipation - it would be great if we could have 100 projects entered by June of this year.  Will you join me in increasing the impact of your club?
