SOLAR POWERED CAROUSEL

Following the outstanding grand opening of the Solar Powered Heritage Carousel on Memorial Day Weekend, the Rotary Club of Buffalo is pleased to announce the first major event at the Carousel.

Round and round we go this September 10 and 11, as the community is invited to celebrate the new Solar Powered Heritage Carousel.
A Carousel Carnival will have something for everyone. On Friday a ticketed VIP party will toast this stunning new addition to our waterfront.  On Saturday, a FREE carnival will be open from noon to 4:00 pm with free Carousel rides, carnival games and food, “make and take” activities for kids, "Honk for Heroes" which brings military and first responders and their vehicles to Canalside – with firetrucks, K-9 units and more, presented by Explore and More.  To close the day, the Rotary Club will hold its annual Duck Derby at 4:15. Adopt your ducks for just $5 each and watch them race to the finish in the Commercial Slip. Take this opportunity to see the amazing reconstruction of this carousel and its beautiful animals, which was originally made in North Tonawanda in 1924, disappeared for decades and now stands tall with a brand new solar powered roof thanks to Tesla.  All of the attractions at Canalside, including Explore and More Children’s Museum, the new Long Shed, and the Erie County Public Library will participate in the event with kid’s activities and tours.  The Naval Park will hold its annual 9/11 memorial that morning with the ringing of the bells for each person who lost their life 20 years ago.

In addition to a free, fun-filled day for the community, this event will raise money to support the Rotary Club of Buffalo’s charity programs throughout the area.  Most recently, the club provided more than $70,000 in pandemic relief to 7 local organizations:  FeedMore WNY, Feed the Front Lines, Friends of the Night People, Harvest House, Compass House, St. Luke’s Mission on Mercy, Buffalo Prenatal-Perinatal Network.  The Carousel Carnival will help continue this important work.

For more than 100 years, the Rotary Club of Buffalo has been an important part of the western NY community.  Since 1989 the club has awarded grants totaling more than $2 million to many local charitable groups, and its members have invested tens of thousands of hours in sweat equity to help make Buffalo a better place to live.

To Rotarians throughout the District – we need and welcome you to join us for this 2-day event.  Of course, we’d love to have you attend our fabulous VIP party on Friday night Sept. 10. In addition, we will host a Welcome Area at our Rotary Village at the free carnival on Saturday, Septrmber 11.  Come and help us tell our guests about Rotary – who we are and what we do to make WNY a better place!  We’ll be staffing this table between 12-4. We also need plenty of help to run games and sell our Ducks for the Derby at the end of the day. If you have a couple of hours to spare, call Sara at the Rotary Office and she’ll get you signed up -- 716-854-3397. Thank you in advance for your help.
