DG John's September Message

Labor Day has come and gone and the summer is slowly ending. It is now a time when many of us get back into our regular routines, including implementing all those plans we have made for our Rotary year.

Sandy and I have visited almost half of our District’s 73 clubs at this point. We have had a wonderful summer, once again greeting friends and making new ones. We continue to be impressed with how clubs are meeting the challenges in their communities and still supporting world community service projects, the Rotary Foundation, and Polio Plus. Thank you to all who work so hard to improve the lives of others.

As the leaves begin to fall, Sandy and I would like to invite you to the District Conference scheduled for October 28, 29, and 30. It will be held in the Niagara Falls Convention Center, in Niagara Falls, New York. The Conference Hotel is the Sheraton, which is just a few feet away from the Convention Center. Both are ideally located just three blocks from the Rainbow Bridge, on Third Street.

A District Conference provides an opportunity for Rotarians and their partners to learn more about Rotary and what it means to be a member of a larger organization, such as our District and Rotary International. I attended my first District Conference some 27 years ago. The moment happened shortly after I joined my Rotary Club. My attendance awoke in me a wonder about all that can be accomplished locally and internationally by a dedicated group of individuals. Through the years, I have attended almost all District Conferences and continue to learn something new each time. While clubs remain the heart of Rotary, according to President Banerjee, “it is at the District Conference where club members can become even more aware of the ways in which Rotary is making the world a better place”.

Yours in Rotary,

John Heise

District Governor 7090, 2011-2012
