ARE THESE ROTARIANS HAVING FUN YET?

Over the past few weeks, teams of six Rotarians (and some spouses) have been donating their time and “culinary expertise” – a definite misnomer – to the kitchen at Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton.  The Dundas Valley Sunrise Rotary Club sponsored six Meals that Heal at the house beside McMaster University Children’s Hospital in west Hamilton.  Each team joined the house chef, Shawn Rocchi, in preparing a meal for the 60 – 80 people who are served dinner every day while staying at Ronald McDonald House to be near children who need special care.

In the house that love built, families receive a room, continental breakfast, snacks, and a nutritious dinner every day, 365 days per year.  Rotarians diced and sliced as they helped to prepare dinner for the families.  Not only did the process help the house, but the camaraderie and obvious fun was a great team-building effort for club members.  The club donated the $1800 needed to sponsor the meals and added $700 in donations to Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities.

It was helpful for Ronald McDonald House; it was educational in that we learned more about the efforts of the house to make a difficult time for parents (and siblings) a bit more pleasant; and it was FUN.

Rotary Clubs near McMaster might consider a similar event for their clubs. Please contact Assistant Governor, Robert Morrow for more details, if interested.
