DINE TO DONATE

The Rotary Club of  Dundas Valley Sunrise is running a fundraiser it calls “Dine to Donate”.  During these Covid times, local restaurants are hurting and demand at the two food banks in Dundas is high. So the club thought to combine these two needs by encouraging members and the community in general to buy some take-out meals, each one adding a $10 donation to the foodbanks.

DVS chose Wednesdays as a slow restaurant day and invited 5 restaurants, one each week in March, to participate. As an added bonus, Jamie Petrie, a local musician is live-streaming a concert each Wednesday evening to give some “value-added”.

Last year the club invested in a Square payment system for the Club – mainly to collect breakfast dues - and it comes with a website facility that you can customize with no coding skills. With a little tinkering and testing, they were able to configure it to display the menus and locations of the restaurant (of the week) and take menu orders and payments which it will give to the restaurant a few days before its due date.

Before the end of March, you can look at the site at     https://rotary-club-of-dundas-valley-sunrise.square.site/    but don’t buy unless you plan to drive to Dundas on the day!

Two weeks into the sales campaign the club has already sold over 120 meals and raised $1200 for the foodbanks. With another month to go, the expectation is high.

The Rotary Club of Dundas calls it a quadruple “win-win” – a win for the restaurants, a win for the foodbanks, a win for the diners, and a win for Rotary.
