E-CLUB AT UN SECRETARY GALA

On December 18th, E-Club of SOWNY President Gordon Crann and Albert Kim (one of E-Club of SOWNY’s newest members) attended the Rotary Club of New York’s Gala Evening for outgoing United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the Penn Club in midtown Manhattan...

E-Club of SOWNY President Crann was a guest of the Rotary Club of New York (RCNY) in thanks for the advice and assistance he has provided on the US$5 Million Rotary Club of New York – UN Women AGREE Program to renew, educate and empower adolescent girls in Sierra Leone by helping to introduce the Rotary Club of New York to members of the Rotary Club of Freetown (the first choice for a host Rotary Club in Sierra Leone) and to BRAC USA in regards to BRAC Sierra Leone becoming a NGO partner in this major Rotary-UN program.

UN Women was a creation of Ban Ki-moon during his term as United Nations Secretary-General; and he has been instrumental in arranging for the Government of South Korea to provide US$200,000 in start up funding for AGREE in Sierra Leone. There were a number of UN Women dignitaries in attendance at the RCNY Gala Evening for Ban Ki-moon; and a brief overview of the RCNY-UN Women AGREE Program was part of the program that evening.

Albert Kim attended this event to meet Ban Ki-moon. Albert has transferred his membership from District 7070; and he is taking  over the lead (from Randal Eastman) on Rotary in China’s humanitarian projects in North Korea that District 7090’s Rotary Club of Dundas Valley Sunrise - along with other Canadian and American Rotary Clubs - have been providing financial assistance for.

The E-Club of SOWNY continues to grow its membership by attracting both existing and new Rotarians interested in youth, peace, microfinance and/or social enterprise.
