KICKING OFF SUMMER SERVICE

The Rotary Club of Fonthill is kicking off a summer full of events and activities.  By far our biggest event has been the Rotary Family Funfest at Bissell’s Hideaway.  The planning and organizing of this event saw a unique collaboration between the Rotary Club of Fonthill and the staff and students at one of our local secondary schools, E.L.Crossley.

The senior business class of one of the local secondary schools used the semester to participate in an experiential learning opportunity as part of their course credit.  Groups became marketing, promotions, and event experts learning about how to support not for profits in the community.

The event was held on Saturday June 18th and saw attendees come from far and wide.  A beautiful sunny day,  lots of activities including unicorn rides and tech challenges, bands and a Shriner’s BBQ to name a few was efficiently run by the Rotarians, Rotaractors, Friends of Rotary and students.  The proceeds exceeded expectations and  will be directed to support charities in our community.

Our member and Immediate Past District Governor Frank Adamson in the meantime attended the Rotary International Convention in Houston.  This was good as Frank missed the 2 he was slated to attend in his role as DGE and DG due to cancellation of the in person event because of COVID-19.  Interestingly, he caught COVID at the 22 Convention anyway. Thankfully, he has fully recovered.

June continued with the arrival of the Canada Summer Games torch which Rotary and Rotaract clubs throughout the Niagara Region will be hosting in each Niagara  community.   The Games themselves will take place in August.

The end of June saw our Changeover meeting in person on an outside patio.  President Ann Harrison inducted two new members, presented Rotarian of the Year and inducted the new board and new president Troy Killlick.
