WORKING TOGETHER TO PROVIDE HELP

The Rotary Club of Fort Erie reached out to Rotary clubs in Niagara Falls to work on assistance with efforts to settle refugees in the community.
The Canadian government in their enthusiasm for helping refugees have allowed many to enter into Canada via the border near Montreal. The refugees are filling up the available living spaces there and the government has moved about 1000 refugees into the hotels in Niagara Falls.Matthew House in Fort Erie is one organization that specializes in refugee help.  They provide refugee claimants, broken families, and homeless people with emergency shelter and transitional housing.  Right now, Matthew House is working on over 300 claimants that is spilling over from Niagara Falls.

The Rotary Club of Niagara Falls Sunrise has responded to the call for help and generously donated funds of $1000 to support the refugee settlement efforts.  Dennis Gilmore and Carrie Zeffiro from NF Sunrise club visited the Fort Erie club to help with the efforts and build camaraderie between the two clubs.  The Fort Erie club also presented a $1000 to Matthew House as a matching donation.

Together, the two clubs were able to make a positive impact in the lives of the refugees and strengthen the bonds of friendship within the Rotary community.  Pictured is Scott Broda, Busie and John Mtshede, Dennis Gilmore, Carrie Zeffiro and Assistant Governor Tommy Gerbasi.
