YOUR NEW HOME IS READY

Grand Island Rotarians had spent almost three months collecting the furniture, bedding, full kitchen and dining room furnishings plus household supplies needed to properly start one of Journey's End Resettlement Afghan refugee families toward a life in Buffalo.

A wait for three weeks, then the quick call; there is an apartment available – please clean, furnish and stock it this weekend, we have a family ready to move in!

With President Sherry Miller and Rotarian Diane Garey (an Interior Decorator) in charge, GI Rotarians and friends, 2 UB Rotaracts, 3 from M & T Bank, changed their schedules, put off other plans: in one 6 hour period they scraped and cleaned, rented a truck, moved everything, assembled, placed furniture, made beds, even mounted prints on walls to create a well appointed, welcoming, apartment for an Afghan family of parents with 5 children. A project that was stressful, yet so rewarding, and done under special conditions to minimize the any further difficulty for a family that had been through so much.
