FIRST 50/50 DRAW SALES EXCEED $5K

Like all District Clubs, the Hamilton AM club is testing out new fundraising ventures.  Using the new electronic or on-line method of selling 50/50 tickets, the club will net close to $2500 and on October 28 one local person was very happy to hear she won her 50% share of the total sales.  Under Ontario lottery licensing rules, club members cannot purchase tickets themselves so they had to rely on good relationships with family and friends to promote ticket sales.

Social marketing is a key element and of course full support by club members is essential.  Partnering with other organizations that have large memberships can certainly help but that will mean sharing the proceeds.  Now if every member in every club bought a ticket from each other's raffles, we could see some big wins for everyone!

READING BUDDIES MAKE A TELLING DIFFERENCE

Rotary really believes in promoting literacy and what better way than one on one support right in the school setting.  Until recently, volunteers have not been allowed in Ontario schools and now that they have opened up, one of the first programs requested by Hess Street School in Hamilton was to revive our former Reading Buddy Program.  It only takes one hour a week with 30 minutes spent with each student.  For the majority of students in this school, English is their second language and such reading support shows immediate gains.  The Rotary Club of Hamilton AM has four members and a Rotaractor in the program with some waiting on police checks to begin. One club member, Cheryl Gzik, handily enrolled her parents, Lyle and Marie in the program - delegation at its finest!
