THE NEED IS GREAT - PLEASE SUPPORT THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE

A Ukraine colleague who recently fled her native country said:" Believe me, it is very difficult to find yourself in a situation where you are forced to leave your native country with two suitcases and a child, no understanding when we will be able to come back. Morally and emotionally, it is terrible, the concept of "tomorrow" is completely absent."

The Epic Humanitarian Crisis in Ukraine is something not seen or even imagined since world WW 11. More than 3.7 million people have left the country fleeing for their lives - leaving loved ones behind to fight a senseless and unprovoked war against a sovereign country. As well it is estimated that 7 million people - about the size of New York City - have been displaced from their homes inside the war-torn country due to the devastating and constant bombing and shelling.
The need is gigantic both short and long term to support Ukrainians in their country and those relocating to other countries for their safety.

The Rotary Club of Hamilton, District 7090, is issuing an URGENT APRIL CHALLENGE to Clubs from across Zones 28 & 32 to support fund raising efforts with funds going directly to The Rotary Foundation Disaster Relief Fund.

Club President, Alex Moroz, quickly mobilized members, received Board approval and launched the club campaign in 48 hours. Your Club can do the same.

The fund-raising model the Hamilton Club is very basic, we are asking club members to donate funds through the Club web site and the Club will match donations to the best of its capability. These funds will be sent to the Foundation for distribution through partner channels on the ground on a priority basis. Districts are also encouraged to participate by using un-allocated District Designated Funds where possible.

Grants are being made to Districts in Eastern Europe on an express basis to flow aid as quickly as possible by The Foundation Team. As well grants will be made available to support relocation efforts in many countries globally as this humanitarian disaster continues to unfold.

To my fellow Rotarians - Thank you for the great work you do.
