ASSISTANCE WELCOMED

The new Rotary year starts July 1, 2021.  Are you looking for something Rotary to get involved in beyond your club?

There are lots of interesting roles you could take on at the district.  We welcome your assistance!  Here is a sampling of ways you could volunteer with us and get involved.

1. Registrar for Coaching Series.  Thanks to Angela Carter and Al Lutchin, a wonderful three part coaching series is being made available to Rotarians.  It is a refreshing and effective leadership style that is taught in this interactive series.  We seek someone who would like to become in charge of registrations, sending links to participants and helping with other organizing tasks.  Few meetings.  A task for someone who likes doing.  If you would like more information, contact Al Lutchin from the Rotary Club of Hamilton at al@careercompasscanada.com.

2. Youth Protection Officer(s).  We have an amazing Youth Exchange committee who have some fantastic ideas for the year ahead - including exploring bringing more short-term exchanges and new generations exchange (for under 30 years old) to our clubs.  The programs run with protocols and procedures in place that ensure the safety of all.  All the same, Rotary International recommends that the District Governor appoint a youth protection officer with experience in counseling, social work, law enforcement or child development.  This person monitors state and provincial laws; confirms appropriate screening measures are in place; ensures appropriate training etc.  We would like to find two officers ideally - one based in New York state and one in Ontario. If you want to learn more, contact Jill Norton, a member of the Rotary Club of Buffalo Sunrise at  jillnortonye7090@gmail.com

3. Join our Training Team.  In a recent survey we conducted with Club Presidents, President Elects and members of District Council, it was noted that 71% of respondents said that providing training is one of the most important activities that the District provides our clubs.  We could use many more individuals to help us with the many tasks.  Maybe you would like to help promote the Rotary Leadership Institute or even be a facilitator for it.  Perhaps you would like to help those who are producing the monthly web talks or the visioning to action team which helps clubs create strategic plans.  For more information, contact Sue Czyrny from the Rotary Club of Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus at training.rotary.7090@gmail.com

4. Be part of the newly forming Governance or Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.  Your district has recently become incorporated and has refreshed its governance structure.  One of the eight committees at District Council is a newly formed Governance committee which will help us to tweak how we function as well as provide guidance to the committees reporting into it such as Nominating, District Abuse Prevention, Legislative and our newly forming Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee.  We are looking for volunteers for all those sub-committees and for the Governance committee itself - with a special call out to those with skills and interest in our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion sub-committee.  Please reach out to myself, Anne Bermingham, Rotary Club of Hamilton AM (and District Governor Elect) at anne@d7090.org

5. Help plan the Spring 2022 District Conference.  There will be a District Conference next spring (March or April timeframe).  There will be an element of it that is virtual and there will hopefully be an in-person part where we gather to socialize as well as perhaps work hands-on together in a service project.  We are at the ideas stage right now.  If you are interested, there is a brainstorming meeting happening this Thursday June 3 from 4-5 pm.  If you want more information, contact me at anne@d7090.org

6. Join us as we explore other multi-club service projects.  Everyone has so appreciated Governor Frank’s brainchild of an idea that turned into the Great Lakes Watershed Clean-Up.  When a service project involves multi-clubs, it has a bigger impact and gives us the ability to communicate and mobilize non-Rotarians to join us.  We are exploring how we could band together and make a great impact using all the food security projects underway in our District.  We are pondering how we could all do more to help youth get the jobs they desire.  We are also at the ideas stage and having a brainstorming meeting on June 9 from 5-6 pm.  Contact Phil Shames, Rotary Club of Stoney-Creek at phil@ecosuds.ca for more information.
7. Be a part of our team of volunteers helping to direct/produce videos.  We are creating and using videos like never before in our District.  We are hoping to have a monthly video of interesting happenings in the district that can be played at club meetings rather than sending a deluge of emails to you.  We are posting videos from our events such as Club Training Assembly.  We need more people who would like to help us produce, edit and create these videos. Contact David Berry, Rotary Club of Niagara Sunrise at dberry@cogeco.ca or David Schultz of Rotary Club of Fonthill at daveschulz7@gmail.com.
