ROTARY HEARS ABOUT US CONGRESS
The Rotary Club of Jamestown hosted Congressman Tom Reed during its April 4 meeting. First elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2014, Reed represents the 11 counties that make up the 23rd District of New York. He sits on the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees important areas including tax policy, trade, human resources, and oversight...
During his visit, Reed mentioned highlights of the past year, including the passage of a five-year highway bill, which begins to address infrastructure issues with funds raised from the gasoline tax. He also mentioned the so-called “doc fix,” a bill that makes permanent the reimbursement rates from Medicare so that the income stream for health care providers is made more predictableReed said tax code simplification, clarification, and fairness is a top priority for the committee, but he said changes would only become reality if the presidential candidates make them priorities for their first 100 days in office. He also said that poverty across the country should be addressed.
