JAMESTOWN HEARS FROM LOCAL ENTREPRENEUR

At a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Jamestown, Tory Irgang, Program Committee Member, introduced Mr. Bill Thomas.  A native of rural Chautauqua County and graduate of Falconer Central School in 1998, Mr. Thomas is the co-founder and manager of the Jamestown BioDome Project in downtown Jamestown.  Additionally he owns and operates his own screen print shop, organizes events for the Active Artists Alliance and occasionally creates mixed-media collage based artworks from found and salvaged materials.

The Jamestown BioDome Project designs & builds hydroponic and aquaponic systems for growing food indoors, as efficiently as possible, and using methods which are both economically and ecologically sustainable. They produce custom experimental hydroponic and aquaponic grow units for their own use, for retail sales, for educational purposes, and occasionally for clients who want custom in-home installations. The BioDome Project uses these systems in their own facilities to grow premium hydroponic herbs and leafy greens for wholesale sales to local restaurants and coffee shops.

Additionally, the Jamestown BioDome Project operates a Gallery and Artisan's Market as a showroom for their own plant-related products and experiments and as a way to support local artists and artisans. BioDome offers a wide variety of products for shoppers to peruse, including house plants, handmade soaps, honey, maple syrup, ceramics, woodworking, clothing, accessories, jewelry, local artwork, and an ever-changing array of other handmade items.

The Jamestown BioDome’s goal is to give creative people an outlet to sell their goods downtown, and to make it easier for people to purchase high quality locally made items.  For more information, please visit www.biodomeproject.com
