2020 PATHWAYS AWARD

2020 PATHWAYS TO OPPORTUNITY
CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION EMPLOYER RECOGNITION AWARD
-----------------------
New Again Construction Essentials
5106 King Street West, Beamsville, ON L0R 1B8

Since opening in Beamsville in 2015, New Again has been a constant on the list of placements for students involved in the BDSS co-operative education program. During each school semester, Store Manager Sandra Heerema and Lead Volunteer Jerry Gerritsen and their team welcome co-op students of all levels and abilities. In New Again’s commitment to provide a safe and meaningful work experience, tasks are suited to the ability of each individual student.

This unique award was initiated in 2006 by the Rotary Club of Lincoln in partnership with Beamsville District Secondary School (BDSS) and Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. Its purpose is to celebrate Town of Lincoln businesses or not-for-profit organizations that demonstrate outstanding support for the BDSS Co-operative Education Program. It is presented annually in conjunction with the Chamber’s Outstanding Business Achievement Awards.

The award evolved from Lincoln Rotary’s commitment to VOCATIONAL SERVICE – to provide the community links necessary for secondary school students to find “Pathways to Opportunity” through meaningful experiences that will help lead them to suitable education and work opportunities upon graduation. The award recipient is selected by BDSS co-op teachers based on criteria specific to co-op education goals.

PARTNERSHIPS IMPORTANT DURING COVID

The first-ever Celebrate Lincoln Charity Golf Tournament presented by the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Mayor Easton, Town of Lincoln, the Rotary Club of Lincoln, and the Niagara Community Foundation.

The tournament was divided into two days - Monday, September 21, and Wednesday, September 23 to comply with the current regulations and facilitate physical distancing.  A stellar day of golf at the Twenty Valley Golf & Country Club supported a number of organizations within the community as Lincoln focused on recovery!

A true example of cooperation between organizations to provide a safe, fun experience for all to enjoy! Each organization had a tent on a designated hole during the tournament to highlight how their organization contributed to the community. The Rotary Club of Lincoln had a tent set up on hole #7 where different projects were highlighted - among them the club's two international projects: the Khazimula Children's project at the Khazimula Children's Home in South Africa, and END POLIO NOW. Two local signature projects: the Rotary Park Town of Lincoln and the Cave Springs Camp Legacy Hall Project were also highlighted.
