AWARDING SCHOLARSHIPS

The Rotary Club of Lockport, in keeping with Rotary's motto “service above self”, annually raises funds and gives at least $10,000 to exceptional students.  This year there are three scholarships being offered to very deserving Lockport High School seniors:  Victoria Haak will be attending Providence College.  She is ranked first in her graduating class. Although her academic prowess was recognized during the application process, her ability to field questions and her constant message of giving and coming back to our community to carry out meaningful work was steadfast and impressive.  The academic scholarship winner will receive $2,000 for each of the next four years, $8,000 in total.

This year, the club awarded two vocational scholarships. Each winner will receive $2,000 for two years.  Nicholas DiCarlo has a career path in auto mechanics in mind which was deliberately stated and it is perceived that he will certainly reach his goal.  His passion is cars and engines.  Nicholas was open and honest with our committee and his determination and “knowithall”  was refreshing.   The second vocational scholarship recipient this year is John Ritz. He spoke of a career path that may go a couple of directions as explained in his interview but continuing his education at Niagara County Community College will position him with an associates degree and opportunities to build upon.
