PAUL HARRIS IN THE COMMUNITY

On June 21, 2016, the Rotary Club of Welland held its annual Paul Harris celebration. 85 Rotarians, partners, friends and recipients attended. The Club recognized two community volunteers this year with Paul Harris Fellowships.

Claire Masswohl, former CEO of the Welland Heritage Council, a Welland native, has spent her life in the service of others in our community. From volunteering with her mother as a young kid, to founding various organizations that encourage inclusion of various community members like the Niagara Newcomer Service Alliance, and guiding the Welland Heritage Council to new heights, Masswohl has been a key player in the betterment of Welland.

Paul Leon, also a Welland native, has spent his life serving his community and the lives of others. Whether through his support of the Welland Cancer Society, the Lung Association, Community Living, United Way, or the Welland County General Hospital where he served as a trustee for more than 25 years, Paul has made an impact on Welland and all of Niagara for which we are truly honored to recognize his efforts. Paul is also a proud Rotarian.

Immediate Past District Governor Kevin and District Governor Marlee helped in the presentation of these prestigious recognitions. Past Presidents Deb Zahra and Peter Papp were each awarded their PHF+1 pins in recognition for their contribution to leadership of the Club.  Presentations were also announced for those Rotarians who had reached a milestone in Foundation giving including Umit Eruysal (PHF+3); Douglas Johnson (PHF+2); Rob de Smit (PHF+1); Alison Brown (PHF); honourary Member Jim Goldsmith (PHF+5) and former Rotarian Carl Damude (PHF). Welland Rotary is a Sustaining Club.
