NEW CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

A lifelong resident of Niagara, Dr. Ron Mergl graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1985 and practiced veterinary medicine for 38 years. With his wife, Dr. June Mergl, they owned Niagara Falls Animal Medical Centre until his sudden death in 2020. Dr. Ron was a 33-year member (and Past President) of his favourite organization, the Rotary Club of Niagara Falls. He always exemplified “Service Above Self” - the Rotary motto. He was a very generous supporter of the local and worldwide community with his philanthropic and volunteer work. Through the years he gave considerable time, energy and financial resources to many charities and organizations, especially directing his efforts towards children and adolescents in health and education.
 
This Tuition scholarship of up to C$5000.00 will be presented to one Niagara Falls student, who is pursuing a full time university science, agricultural, animal, pre-vet or pre-med program.
 
Applicants should show moderate to high academic achievement and show evidence of "Service Above Self" through giving back in a volunteer role to the local and/or global community.
 
Recipients will be selected by a Scholarship Selection Committee.
 
In order to be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must fulfill the following requirements.
  1. Applicants must be a resident of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada
  2. Applicants must submit an acceptance letter from an accredited post secondary institution within Canada for a full time degree seeking program in a science, agricultural, animal, pre-vet or pre-med program
  3. Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school official
  4. Applicants must submit a cover letter (not more than 300 words) summarizing their high school experiences, achievements and their dreams for the future
  5. Bullet list of awards, accolades, jobs, sports competitions, etc.
  6. Applicants must submit their high school transcript
  7. Applicants may be required to take part in an interview with the Scholarship Selection Committee

Your application should also be accompanied by the following:

  • A true copy of your high school transcript

  • Applicants who have been selected for possible interviews will be contacted by the selection committee. 
  • Applications will be accepted up until April 30th.
