The Rotary Club of Niagara Falls Sunrise hosted the 45th World Championship of golf for the International Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians raising over $100,000.  More than 300 Rotarians from 32 countries attended the five day event.

The club has presented Shelterbox Canada with a $72,000 donation, the largest one time donation in all of North America for the international relief organization.  Shelterbox is a Rotary Club project which started in England.  The program provides immediate emergency shelter to victims of disasters throughout the world, giving them hope and dignity.  A Shelterbox contains a tent, sleeping bags, tools, a portable stove, a water purification system and a first aid kit for a family of 10.  Shelterboxes are deployed around the world and are often the first supplies to arrive in disaster zones.  Most recently Shelterboxes have been distributed in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Namibia.  Shelterboxes were also delivered in Italy and were set up just 19 hours after the earthquake hit.

The balance of the proceeds will be used to help other Rotary humanitarian projects.
