A SUNRISE CHRISTMAS IN NORFOLK

It has been a year full of changes and challenges. Nonetheless, the year was closed in ways that one wished might have been different but still were worth being proud of. A festive season taste of things done in December include:
  • Annual General Meeting. Bringing much work to an end-year conclusion, a new constitution was adopted, a new set of bylaws was agreed upon, healthy end-year fiscal paper was approved and the result of our strategic planning exercise was concluded. Along the way, a distantly-awarded Paul Harris Fellow was awarded to our hard-working (and clearly shocked!) Treasurer, George Cornfield;
  • Coats for Kids Part 2. Some of the larger-sized clothing articles we collected earlier in the month for local needs, were better directed to a northern community in Nunavut. In response, the coordinator in Pond Inlet noted; "Because of the Rotary club, and its coat donation, a whole bunch of kids will be warmer this Christmas. That's a difference I could never have imagined, not in Ontario, and not here, without the Rotary club's help”;
  • Supporting Those in Need. Rather than having a club get-together with food and drink this year, the plan is to provide the same for the needy residents at Indwell’s Hambleton Hall. This gifting will be done to each resident, using food gift cards and warm clothing. RCNS still provides many attendants to the Salvation Army Kettle campaign and continues to support the emergency meals program proponents who are feeding the needy throughout our community. The need is great and we are but one small part of the solution; and
  • Welshpool Partnership. A joint Zoom session was conducted with our long-time sister club in Welshpool Wales. What a great opportunity to renew long-lost friendships and learn different ways of getting by during a pandemic.
Phew!  So, as the year concludes, we long for a return to normalcy but are satisfied that we are remaining helpful too, and within, our communities. We still see the ‘sunrise’ and look forward to a great 2021. Best wishes to all; trust in a better and healthier New Year. Stay Safe.
