MAKING A DENT AND THEN SOME

A recent service project for the Rotary Club of Olean was held in conjunction with the Cattaraugus County SPCA.  The two organizations were able to accomplish many things, even though the day was cut short by rain.

"We made a dent in some projects," said Paula Bernstein, Rotary Club President, noting that those projects included mowing the lawn, cleaning up the outside dogs’ pens, installing new sliding doors in the Medical unit and more.

The local Rotarian members and friends including Alan Bernstein, Jody and Jeff Spears, Risa Michienzi, Megan Moretz and her daughter, Theresa Shaffer, Paul Hennessy, Michelle Marks were there during the day to provide assist to the project joining other community members. A generous donation of blankets and dog food given to the SPCA by Anthony and Syd Evans.  Past President Sandy Sleggs of the Rotary Club and current board member at the SPCA, led the project for the club.
Last week, Karen Crowley, president of the SPCA board of directors, joined the weekly Rotary meeting.  She gave the group an overview of the operations of the local animal shelter.  They currently have 70 cats and 40 dogs in house, and roughly 40 more animals in their foster program with more animals coming in every week.  The
SPCA is always in need of wet dog and cat food, and volunteer or foster families.  The SPCA is entering kitten season and are looking for foster family for new kittens.

Something as simple as walking the dogs can help so much at the shelter. For more information on the programs and animals at the SPCA, visit www.spcacattco.org
The Rotary also presented the SPCA with a check for $170 from a raffle for Cutco barbeque tools in April.
