PIZZAZZ - WHERE READING IS A HIT

Rotary Club of Salamanca sponsored the "Reading with Pizzazz Book Club" at the Salamanca Public Library this summer, implemented by Rotarian, Sheryl Nussbaum and Library Manager Kirsten Woodin.

Fourteen pre-teen participants attended meetings held each Tuesday and enjoyed reading and discussing the best-selling novel "City of Ember" written by Jeanne DuPrau. Nussbaum mentioned that attendance has been excellent and interest levels keen throughout the summer.

The final meeting of the nine-week program featured a pizza party and drawing for a Kindle Fire HD7.  Harrison Dodge was the winner. Additional prizes distributed included gift certificates from area restaurants: Tim Hortons, McDonalds and Burger King.

Names of the reading club members present at the last meeting include: Alyssa Otero, Cruz Otero, Kayden Cunningham, Sammi Lin; Annika Pagett, Ava Waite, Hanna Poling, Kirstin Steckman and Marcus Williams.

The Rotary Club will also sponsor a Fall Book Club at the Salamanca Public Library and other literacy programs at the Salamanca Youth Center.
