SCHOLARS ANNOUNCED

Scholarship winners for the year 2015 - 2016 are as follows: 
1. $5000:  Nicholas Hlifka/Jamestown Community College
2. $3000:  Abigail Jantzi/Penn State University
3. $3000:  Lauren Ishwrwood/John Carroll University
4. $2000:  Maggi Kyle/York University
5. $2000:  Margaret Rustowicz/St. John Fisher College

As you may be aware from our recent Rotary Foundation Committee report to District Council on January 16, 2016, our Vocational Training Team (VTT) undertaking failed to materialize this year as our VTT partner District 7020 was unable to meet the necessary requirements to propose a team in a timely fashion.  Therefore, in accordance with the financial management of the District Grant Spending Plan the final report to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) would necessitate returning the unused $10,000 back to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) for onward rollover into our District Designated Funds (DDF) for Global Grant utilization in the 2016-2017 year.  
 
The District Grant Foundation committee considered this disappointing news as an opportunity to consider alternative options and with a majority of support from the committee, the decision was approved by TRF to re-allocate the $10,000 from the VTT offering to recognize the top four (4) candidates who fell slightly shy of receiving the coveted $5,000 award, i.e. 2nd and 3rd candidates will receive $3,000 and 4th and 5th candidates will receive $2,000.
 
We encourage every club to undertake to welcome candidates from their area schools to consider Rotary scholarship options.
