CURLING SPIEL & SOCIAL

The Rotary Club of Welland held its 5th annual Curling Spiel and Social on January 31, 2023.
Hosted by the Welland Curling Club, we had 85 Rotarians, including family and friend attendees, with a full complement of 64 curlers on 16 teams.

Governor Lisa Bishop (Delhi) graced us with her presence, along with Governor Elect Scott Marcin from the Rotary Club of Amherst South (New York), PDG Frank Adamson (Fonthill) and our own Governor Nominee (24-25) Dave Alexander.

The Rotary Clubs of Grimsby and Fonthill fielded teams, as did the Niagara Children’s Centre. The Rotary Club of Welland has been associated with the Centre since its establishment in 1964. Welland Rotary was proud to have a team of Special Olympians join in for the first time since the pandemic. Three energetic teams from the City of Welland as well as various teams of Welland Rotarians and friends rounded out the roster.

Everyone had an enjoyable evening, including three visiting members of the Rotary Club of Fort Erie. The 50/50 draw prize winner was Rotarian Oksana Fisher (St. Catharines), CEO of the Niagara Children’s Centre. As it was a fun event, a draw was held to determine the winning team, the prizes being gift cards for each member of the team. The winning team was the Special Olympians - pictured right.
