ART TRAIL - A TOPIC OF INTEREST

Just because the annual Chautauqua Art Trail has finished its special 8th annual tour for this year, it doesn’t mean you can’t visit any of a variety of artists throughout the year, according to Audrey Kay Dowling, co-founder/charter member of the Chautauqua Crafts Alliance.  Mrs. Dowling recently brought the county art world up to date for Westfield/Mayville Rotarians.  Introduced by one of the club members, her husband, Don Dowling, she not only has been instrumental in bringing art to the forefront in the county, she is owner of the Portage Hill Gallery, which is located halfway between Westfield and Mayville on Route 394.  Pictured are the Dowlings.

In 2008, Mrs. Dowling became a charter member of North Shore Arts Alliance in the county and a charter member and secretary of Chautauqua Lake Erie Art Trail, for which she currently is a Juried Artist. In addition, she also is a member of Crafts Alliance, Chautauqua Area Potters, Chautauqua VACI and signature member of Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society.

Her Portage Hill Gallery is the perfect location for those who wish to view other artists’ creations as well as her own. She carries many local creations as well as her own.

Mrs. Dowling was instrumental in making it possible for the Chautauqua Crafts Alliance to present their works of art in Chautauqua Institution two weekends each summer.

Having arrived in Chautauqua County in 1977 from Hudson Valley, Mrs. Dowling’s love for the arts has not only encouraged the public to appreciate skilled artists, but she looks forward to planning Portage Trail Marketing Initiative for all businesses – agriculture, historic, ecotours and winter businesses.
