YOUTHFUL TRADITIONS

With its tradition of recognizing outstanding local teens, sponsoring SLAPSHOT students, assisting two Interact Clubs, and offering scholarships to some graduating seniors, the Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville’s Youth Services program continued to shine even during the dark days of the pandemic.

Dan Smith, Club Youth Services Committee Chair and Rotary District 7090 Vocational Training Team Chair, was instrumental in maintaining the program in spite of various challenges.

Smith stated, “The Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville has worked with all four of our area high schools to continue the Scholar of the Month recognitions, promote the SLAPSHOT virtual training, and award scholarships to worthy graduating seniors. We applaud the continued commitment by the schools and their staffs during this most challenging year with the COVID-19 crisis. Also, we are extremely grateful for the generosity of our local communities and their support of our fundraising efforts, which enabled our Rotary Club to continue these worthwhile Youth Services.”

Highlights of the Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville’s Youth Services program for the 2020-2021 club year include the following: Thirty high school students were honored as Scholars of the Month; one high school junior was sponsored for SLAPSHOT and had a very positive leadership training experience; two high school Interact Clubs were sponsored and assisted; and eight graduating seniors from four local high schools were awarded a combined total of $2,400 in scholarships. Thank you, Dan Smith!
