CARDS FOR EVERYONE

The Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville is rolling out its third season of “Project Christmas Card”. The club did a media blitz throughout the county and received over three thousand unused Christmas cards. Chairperson for the project Linda Dunn noted, “The support for the project has been overwhelming and we are so grateful for everyone who donated from all corners of our county and parts of Pennsylvania.”

Dunn and fellow Rotarians collected, sorted and signed over 1900 cards this year to be distributed to organizations such as nursing homes, the WCA home, Meals on Wheels agencies, the Frewsburg home, the VA in Erie, PA, Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home in Erie, Absolut Care of Westfield, Blue Star Mothers program and many others.

The project was started by Rotarian Sheila Chapman three years ago with the mission of reaching out to shut-ins and those who may not have a lot of family. It was discovered after the first year that in some cases the club’s card was the only Christmas greeting that some individuals had received.

The club is proud that it will have hand signed and distributed nearly 6,000 Christmas cards since the project was started. Dunn and her husband “JB” delivered the cards to the various locations. The Brocton and Chautauqua Lake Interact Clubs, the WACS Key Club  and WACS students from Mrs. Wilson, Mr. Lucas and Ms. Alonges classes provided card signing and decorating on a large number of cards this year.

Our club espouses the Rotary motto is “service above self”.
